| Where | Liaoning, China |
| What | Φ2.2×45m rotary kiln, 310S shell |
| For | High-carbon ferrochrome calcination |
| Output | 80–100 TPD |
| Why it matters | Shell lasted 8 months before. Now projecting 24+. |
The Problem Was Simple
The customer’s old kiln kept dying. Carbon steel shell, 1,350°C operating temperature, abrasive pellets tumbling inside. The shell oxidized, warped, and cracked. Every eight months, production stopped for repairs.
They needed a kiln shell that could take the heat—literally.
What We Did
We built the kiln with a 310S stainless steel shell. 310S is a high-nickel austenitic alloy that holds its structure at temperatures that turn carbon steel into scrap . Sixteen-millimeter thickness, stress-relieved welds, and a heating system that keeps the calcination zone within ±5°C.
The internal lifters got a redesign too. The original geometry was throwing pellets against the shell instead of through the hot gas. We changed the spiral pattern—same rotation speed, better heat transfer, less dust.
From Order to Hot Commissioning
Forty-five days to manufacture. Factory assembly and no-load test before shipping. Our engineers spent twelve days on site in Liaoning for installation oversight, commissioning, and operator training. The kiln hit target throughput within three days of first fire.
Numbers That Matter
| Old Kiln | New Kiln | |
|---|---|---|
| Shell life | 8 months | 24+ months (projected) |
| Metallization variance | ±8% | ±2.5% |
| Energy use | 135 kWh/t | 108 kWh/t |
| Repair days per year | 22 | 4 |
The customer put it plainly: “We stopped scheduling around the kiln.”

Questions We Get Asked
Will 310S work at my temperature? It‘s rated for continuous service up to 1,200°C. If you’re running hotter, we‘ll tell you straight and propose an alternative. No guesswork.
Electromagnetic or fuel-fired?This one was electromagnetic—95%+ thermal efficiency, no combustion emissions . We build both. Depends on your site and energy costs.
Lead time?40–50 days for standard. 60–75 if you need special alloys or a custom layout.
Got a kiln problem that won’t go away? Send us your specs. We‘ll tell you what we’d build and what it would cost. No pressure, no sales script.
